Why Deacons?

We believe God gave the church elders and deacons to serve her. We see the first selection of deacons in Acts 6. Deacons were selected by the congregation from among its members to carry out practical ministry within the congregation. We try to follow that pattern. Deacons are nominated by our church, examined by the deacon board, and affirmed annually by vote.

Our deacons all serve our church in a variety of ways. They teach classes, organize ministries, and help serve communion. In addition to all of that, each church member is assigned a deacon who prays for them and helps keep them informed about what is happening around the church.

Deacon ministry is deeply practical and a vital part of our mission at Immanuel Baptist Church.
